There is no other substance on earth that influences us as water does. From conception till death, we are surrounded by water.
About 65% to 70% of the human body weight is water. Our body has trillion cells working as small water reservoir. Our brain, which has 15 billion powerful neuron cells, needs 74.5% of water. To maintain body cell function and equilibrium, we need to consume up to 2.6 liters of water daily and about 60 tons are consumed in a life span.
Losing only 1% of the body’s water can cause thirst or pain, a loss of 5% can cause hallucinations, and a loss of 15% results in death. Man can manage to keep alive without food for 70 to 90 days, but only 5 to 10 days without water can easily be fatal. Although biologists have discovered unusual forms of life that can survive without oxygen at extreme temperatures, with virtually no nutrients, or under immense pressure no forms of life has ever been found that can survive without water.
Water carries nutrients and waste products with our cells, allows red blood cells to transport oxygen to the tissues, and is instrumental in helping immune system cells move about in the body to fight radicals, invaders and infections.
Water helps maintain normal body temperature. Our 2 million sweat glands serve as escape ducts to allow perspiration to release heat into the air. Most importantly, water provides an environment in which enzymes can digest food and convert it to energy so that the body can survive.
Water is critical to the life of the nation’s economy as it is to the human body. Although the role of water in the economy is often hidden, much of our routine activities and business depend so much on its availability, quality and quantity. For instance, about 120 gallons of water are needed to produce one egg, a steak takes 3,500 gallons, and a car about 30,000 gallons.
People have always lived near water. The first civilizations developed beside great rivers such as the Nile, the Indus, the Euphrates. Where there was water, there was industry and commerce.
Over the millennia, people have used fresh water to irrigate crops, power plants, generate steam to sterilize pharmaceutical products, power engines, formulate new foods, clean dirt and grime from machine parts, air-condition homes and serve as sewer to remove wastes
Many industrial uses of water have even stricter quality requirements than those for drinking water. For instance, the water pharmaceutical companies use for making a drug must be of better than drinking-water quality. The poorer the water quality, the more it costs the company to remove the impurities and bring the water up to pharmaceutical-grade quality. Similarly, boiler water must be free of inorganic minerals, which may be safe to drink but may be deposited on metal surfaces and reduce the heat transfer efficiency of the unit. The same is true for water-cooled engines.
Water used to process foods has to be of drinking-water quality. Thus poor quality water can affect us directly through waterborne diseases and indirectly through higher operating costs for industry and agriculture.
The water we drink daily - is it really safe for drinking?
In recent years municipal tap water, whose raw water originates mostly in rivers and lakes, has been found far from satisfactory. This is because, in order to cope with the deteriorating quality of raw water at water treatment facilities along those rivers and lakes, chlorine-treatment is unavoidable for filtration and disinfecting.
The more contaminated the raw water is, the more chlorine needs to be used, which brings foul tastes and odors to our tap water. This is just one -relatively minor- problem with our tap water. The more serious problem is that the chlorination treatment of raw water, which comes from rivers, lakes and water catchments areas gives rise to organochlorine compounds, some of which are recognized as posing significant health risks to humans, if taken for a long time. Of those compounds the most well-known is trihalomethane.
With regard to this substance, whose carcinogenicity has been pointed out, its tolerable concentration in tap water has been regulated since 1981. In addition, the research made in the recent years has revealed that other types of organochlorine chemicals are present in tap water. These substances are found to be highly toxic, possessing not only carcinogenicity, but mutagenicity and teratogenicity as well.
Of these substances the most keenly eyed one is a mutagenic substance called MX.
MX : Acting on Genes
Mutagenicity is a certain characteristic that causes mutations to genes subjected to various toxic effects. This MX possesses such characteristics that induce the cancers of the thyroid glands and liver, by directly causing damage to genetic information of DNA in a cell.
In an experiment on rats made recently at a national institution, it was found that MX promotes the proliferation of stomach cancer cells.
Some researchers are warning that the danger of MX is higher than that of trihalomethane and other substances. This is because MX's mutagenicity is passed on to the next generation as a piece of genetic information.
Since chlorine disinfecting is inevitably employed at water treatment facilities, it cannot be denied that such substances exist in our tap water.
Therefore, at some point in various stages of water treatment from raw water intake all the way to human intake, certain measures need to be taken to eliminate the danger of this highly toxic substance.
Only our Water-Activating System makes it possible!
The use of water purifiers is usually our first choice as a handy self-defense measure so as to obtain clean and non-hazardous water. Conventional household water purifiers, which adopt various filtration / purification methods such as micro-porous hollow-fiber membrane, alkaline ionized water and activating carbons, can remove foul chlorine smell, and to a certain degree harmful substances such as trihalomethane.
However, the problem still remains because these conventional water purifiers are not designed to remove MX contained in tap water. When perceived from this view-point, at present there is only one system available on the market: that is Ultra Medix "Pi Water System", which can rightfully claim that it eliminates all of the organochlorine compounds including MX.
This is made possible by our Pi-Water Systems. They are designed with a special concept of "water-activation", which is to cover far beyond water-filtration or purification processes.
